WHAT ASSISTANCE DOES OHS PROVIDE FOR SPAY/NEUTER?
Ohlone Humane Society offers spay-neuter assistance to residents of Fremont, Newark and Union City. Our co-pay vouchers help facilitate the spay and neuter of several hundred domestic animals and feral cats each year. This effort significantly reduces the overpopulation of animals in the Tri-City community.
Our Trap.Neuter.Return (TNR) team can also help assist with the trapping of community cats (based on availability).
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SUPPORT THIS VITAL PROGRAM!
Spay-neuter curbs the number of unwanted puppies, kittens and small animals which would otherwise end up in shelters or on the streets. Spay-neuter prevents suffering.
OHS is not sponsored by a parent organization like Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). We are not subsidized by local or state funding. Instead, OHS relies on the generosity of our community. Your donations help fund this vital program and we greatly appreciate your support!
NEED A VOUCHER FOR A FERAL/COMMUNITY CAT?
A feral or community cat is an untamed feline that cannot be handled in any way—not to be confused with a stray cat who is friendly. Learn more about community cats.
Veterinarians will not spay or neuter any cat or kitten that is too young, too small, sick or injured. A feral kitten must weigh at least 2 to 3 pounds. When you make your appointment, you are strongly advised to confirm required weight and what kind of trap or recovery cage is needed. Each clinic has their own requirements and these may change at any time. OHS is not responsible for updating you regarding requirements for a particular clinic.
Do not trap any cat until you have received an OHS Feral Spay-Neuter Assistance Voucher AND a confirmed VET APPOINTMENT AT A PARTNER CLINIC. The cat CANNOT REMAIN IN THE TRAP during a waiting period. It MUST have food, water and access to a litter box.
Once a cat is trapped, it is VERY DIFFICULT to catch them again as they now know to avoid traps, so if you trap before you have an appointment, you will have to free the cat without the surgery.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A CO-PAY FERAL CAT VOUCHER
SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION FOR VOUCHERS
OHS has limited veterinary voucher partnerships available for affordable feral/community cat spay/neuter surgeries. Each partner clinic has offered limited appointments, so we ask you to schedule an appointment before applying for a voucher.
At this time, the following clinics will accept our vouchers for feral/community cat surgeries:
For Paws Spay & Neuter Clinic, Fremont

At the clinic:
- BRING THE VOUCHER
- BRING YOUR COPAY OF $50.00 PER CAT
- OHS pays the balance for the cost for the surgery ONLY and will be billed by the clinic. You are also responsible to pay directly to the clinic any additional services or items. Thank you for your cooperation.
